Caspian Tern, Carr Vale 21st July 2016

A second trip in a week to Carr Vale and a second Derbyshire tick! A flurry of missed messages again just as last week but this time the bird stayed on so we rushed off up to the reserve. A walk to the mound (I call it Fort Carr Vale due to its structure LOL) and joining a small crowd I soon saw the Caspian Tern flying round…

It had a few dives then caught what looked like a Perch and swallowed it in flight.

It then went back down onto the furthest pond and roosted up.

A Grey Heron was pottering around on top of the Sand Martin bank.
