29th March 2014

The  sunny weather today brought the first Sand Martins of the year for us… we were walking to the iPro Stadium along the River Derwent for the Derby/Charlton match and after hearing a good number of Chiffchaff in the riverside bushes we heard the distinctive call of Sand Martin and three birds flew over heading towards the Sanctuary, we saw them again over the river a little further down before they flew back again towards the stadium. Several Pied Wags in the ground flitting round the rafters too, plus flyover Cormorant at half time! Peacock Butterflies seemed up and about too this pm, at home and elsewhere.

Yesterday brought the first garden Chiffchaff of the spring with one singing briefly mid pm.
